Week 1 Staying Sharp Quilt Along
Share
It’s Here! Staying Sharp Quilt Along Starts Today!
Today’s the day!! The Staying Sharp Quilt Along officially kicks off today, and I am so excited to be sewing right alongside you!
Whether you’ve been planning for weeks or you’re just jumping in (you’re in good company 😉), you are exactly where you need to be.
Let’s get started!
Week 1: Pattern + Fabric Prep
This first week is all about setting yourself up for success.
No rushing. No pressure.
Step 1: Grab Your Pattern
If you don’t already have your pattern, now is the time!
👉 Order your pattern here!
Take a few minutes to:
- Read through the pattern
- Get familiar with the block construction
- Highlight or mark anything you want to pay extra attention to
Trust me—this little bit of prep makes everything feel smoother as you go.
Step 2: Decide What Size You’re Making
Before you start cutting, take a minute to think about your end goal:
- A wall hanging
- A pillow (or a few 👀)
- A throw-size quilt
This will help guide your fabric choices and how much you’ll need.
And don’t forget… this is prime teacher gift timing.
Multiple pillows for multiple teachers? Not a bad idea at all 😉
Kits + Local Quilt Shops
If you’re still gathering supplies, don’t forget to check your local quilt shops!
Some shops may have kits or fabric pulls available, and it’s such a fun way to support small businesses and see your fabrics in person.

I also have wall hanging kits available here:

Step 3: Prep Your Fabric (Don’t Skip This!)
A little prep now makes a big difference later.
Here are a few simple tips to get your fabric ready:
Press with Steam
Give your fabric a good press using steam to remove any wrinkles or fold lines from the bolt. This helps ensure accurate cutting (and prettier points later 🙌).
Starch (Optional, but Amazing)
If you love crisp, precise piecing, a little starch can be your best friend—especially for shapes that need to stay nice and sharp.
Quick Reminder: Weekly Breakdown
Here’s what our next few weeks will look like:
• Week 1 (Today): Pattern & fabric prep
• Week 2 (May 12): Cutting + half blocks
• Week 3 (May 19): Finish all blocks
• Week 4 (May 26): Assemble & finishing
We’re keeping this fun, flexible, and completely doable—even during a busy season.
You’re Doing This!
I know how easy it is to feel behind before you even begin—but here’s your reminder:
You are not late.
You are not behind.
You’re right on time.
Even if all you do today is read your pattern and press your fabric… that counts.
I’ll be here each week guiding you through every step, cheering you on, and celebrating your progress.
I cannot wait to see what you create!
Now go grab your fabric, turn on something fun in the background, and let’s get started!
